The Forum of Global Leaders (YGL) comprises leaders in governments, NGOs, Fortune 500 companies and entrepreneurs, who are using their diverse skills to create transformational experiences and initiatives to improve the state of the world.

“Every year, the Forum of Young Global Leaders recognizes the world’s leading changemakers under 40. Our role is to further cultivate their ability and influence to improve the state of the world,” said Mariah Levin, Head of the Forum of Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum.

YGLs are active in today’s most exciting and dynamic fields, from the circular economy to digital governance. Their common denominator is a desire to contribute meaningfully to the public good.

“Over its 15-year history, the YGL leadership journey has contributed to the launch of organizations and initiatives, business partnerships and seed funding for bold new ideas. In joining the YGL, Sarah will bring her experience into the community to advance the scale-up of its initiatives, as well as help forge new approaches aimed at building a more sustainable future,” said Richard Batten, JLL Global Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer.

Major YGL initiatives include accelerating refugee entrepreneurship in collaboration with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Oxford Unity; creating new approaches to public sector leadership with the Apolitical Academy; partnering with the National Geographic Society and Dynamic Planet to secure a ‘New Deal for Nature’; addressing unsafe collection and illegal dumping of sewage in key Indian cities; scaling social gastronomy; and supporting The Circulars, the annual awards programme to showcase circular economy innovation.

Sarah will be welcomed into the Forum of Young Global Leaders on Wednesday 13 March, joining its five-year leadership programme.

The Forum of Young Global Leaders

Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, launched the Forum of Young Global Leaders in 2004 as a way of helping the world meet increasingly complex and interrelated challenges. Today, the Forum of Young Global Leaders is an independent non-profit foundation recognized by Swiss law that forms an integral part of the World Economic Forum, with YGLs playing visible roles in Forum meetings, initiatives and projects.

Each year thousands of candidates are proposed through a public nomination process. With the purpose of creating a truly representative body, candidates are evaluated by the Forum of Young Global Leaders and the World Economic Forum, undergo an interview process and, as a final step, are assessed by a selection committee. Between 100-150 new members are selected every year.

With more than 1,300 members and alumni, the Forum of Young Global Leaders represents more than 100 nationalities and is united by the belief that our pressing problems present an opportunity to forge a better future across sectors, generations and borders.
